Introduction

Tourism is an industry that looks after the needs of tourists, i.e. people who go away for pleasure.

Tourism is a very important industry for some places, this is because it brings new work and more money for the local community.

Each year the number of tourists increases as more and more people around the world go on holiday.

Here are some good effects of tourism:

• there is more money for local businesses.

• there is more money for the community which can be used to build new amenities.

• tourism brings more jobs such as chefs, tour guides and travel agents.

• new transport is build to accommodate the tourists.

• it puts the area on the map.

Here are some bad effects of tourism:

• a lot of jobs in tourism are seasonal.

• air pollution can occur from the increase of transport such as cars and buses.

• there is more litter to be cleaned up.

• in season there can be over-crowding.

• some of the building that are made to accommodate tourists ruin the skyline.

Project Aim.

The aim of our project is to find out what people’s holiday habits are, e.g. how they get there, what they do.

Method.

We gained information for our project by conducting a questionnaire to find out people’s holiday habits.

In the lesson we worked in groups and made up our own questionnaires about holiday habits. We had to think about what would make a good question and also to see if the result could be converted into a graph. Also the question had to be short enough not to take up too much time but long enough to get enough information.

At home I asked ten people the questionnaire that Mr. Hinchcliffe prepared. We had to be polite and thank people for giving up their time.

With the results we will make a graph/chart for each question and write a conclusion about people’s holiday habits and also find out what is the most popular type of holiday.

What Is A Hypothesis?

A hypothesis is a statement to be proved accurate or inaccurate by finding out facts.

My hypothesis is that most people will travel to their holiday destination by plane because it is the easiest mode of transport to travel abroad in.

Another hypothesis is that, on holiday, most people eat food local to the area because, on holiday, it is nice to eat food from where you are staying.

My other hypothesis is that most people go on holiday in the summer because either a) it is hot at their holiday destination or b) it is cooler at their holiday destination so they can get away from the heat.

My hypothesis is that most people go to more than one place on holiday because they like to have a change of scenery.

Factors that will effect peoples holiday habits are factors such as the age of the person. For example an O.A.P may not want to go on an activity holiday. Also a lot of people don’t have enough money to go to faraway places which cost a lot of money to get to such as New Zealand.

Another factor is gender, i.e. a woman may not want to go on a no-amenities holidays camping out in the wilderness, and a man may not want to go to a health farm. Also if someone is very ill they may want to live out their dream but would also have to be careful of what they do.

Conclusion.

We have found that the most popular holiday to offer will:

• Be reachable by plane.

• Have a beach nearby.

• Be in the Mediterranean.

• Be a holiday for all the family.

• Be available in summer.

• Be in a hotel.

• Have somewhere to sunbathe.

• Not be inundated with children’s clubs.

• Serve both English style food and local food.

• Cater for 36-45 year olds.

If you were to offer this holiday, at a good price, I predict that there would be a big demand for it.

My Perfect Holiday.

My perfect holiday, if money were no object, would be to go on a round the world trip staying in every country in every continent. The trip would include all flights and transfers, ferry crossings and any other transport I’d need plus all accommodation would be pre-organised. This would hopefully take all the stress out of the holiday and leave me to enjoy myself.

This would be a good holiday because it would include all aspects of life, from poverty to luxury, different types of holidays and also would be confidence building and make me be more independent. I don’t think time would matter if I were to go on this holiday such as this because visiting all the countries and exploring them would take time and effort, but when I came back I would be more knowledgeable.
