A FEAST OF NETBALLBetween 80 & 90 students took part in a great evening of netball at Horbury school on Wednesday 14th March. It was wonderful to see so many students enjoying competing at such a high level. Horbury year 7 & 8 teams played against Ackworth with all matches proving very close. The year 7 squad consists of enough enthusiastic players for two teams or more, all of which have made excellent progress during this year. Games scores HORBURY 4 ACKWORTH 1, HORBURY 2 ACKWORTH 6 Well done to all players for a superb effort and particularly good passing and movement during the games. The year 8 squad is smaller but nevertheless very enthusiastic. Horbury showed particularly fast fluent passing in attack, usually finishing with accurate shooting. They should be pleased with their perfromance even though they lost to Ackworth 7-1. Both teams now look forwrad to finishing the season with their district tournament. YEAR 10 & 11 Horbury hosted a triangular match against both Silcoates and Ackworth. This certainly proved to be a display of skills and teamwork at a high level. Year 10 Horbury dominated the match against Silcoates and did not allow them top settle into any rythm. They showed fast accurate passing, determined and efffective defending and consistently good shooting. HORBURY 16 SILCOATES 8, ACKWORTH 9 SILCOATES 7 In the final game Horbury were in the lead at half time against ackworth but could not maintain the lead just allowing them to take the lead by one goal. HORBURY 7 ACKWORTH 8 Horbury school year 11 team was missing two key players through illness, and Silcoates certainly kept full pressure on our defence. Horbury did particularly well to keep the score down to ten. In attack we saw very little of the ball but they did occasionally show fast fluentpassing that they are capable of. HORBURY 3 SILCOATES 10, SILCOATES 9 ACKWORTH 4 In the final game Horbury enjoyed more of the play and great credit to all the players that they finished the tournament with a very close contest.
