Royal display from HorburyHorbury School Year 11 Basketball Team won the U16 Wakefield and District Basketball Tournament at Outwood Grange School. Horbury were in a group King's School, Pontefract, Carleton High, Pontefract and Knottingley High School. Horbury began well and secured a good opening win over Knottingley, 6-2. The boys knew that their next game would be difficult, but approached it confidently and were unlucky to be beaten by Kings, 4-2. A win in their final game against Carleton would ensure a semi-final place. 11-0 to Horbury was a great result! In the semi-final Horbury met their old adversaries, Outwood Grange; nothing was going to stop them from reaching the final and they ran out comfortable winners. THE FINAL....... This was a re-run of the group match against Kings. Horbury were quick to establish a lead through Matthew Hague - three great lay-ups; Kings were visibly rattled and came back into the game through good breaks from defence. Hague was devastating at the free throw line - 75% success rate. Philip Prime also landed a valuable basket. In a close finish, Horbury defended magnificently, stole valuable possession, and let the clock run out to win 11-9. A fitting climax to a school basketball career.........but keep playing. Team Members Matthew Hague, Martyn Sharp, Ben Welch, Phillip Prime, Alex Ruse, Mark Beever, Jon Gledhill, Josh Hanning & Simon Randall
