Installing a Zelman Flower cooler

The Motherboard has a large plastic clip around the processor, which is normally used to fasten the processor heatsink fan to. We need to remove this clip. Using a fine pair of pliers, carefully pull the clear plastic pin out of each corner of the bracket. The bracket should then just lift off.

This image shows the motherboard without the fan bracket. There are four holes on the motherboard, which we are going to use to connect the new cooler to.

Four brass pillars are screwed in place using the screws provided. Do not overtighten the screws, because damage to the motherbaord is expensive!

Smear some thermal transfer compound onto the top of the processor. Use a cloth to spread the compound thinly.

The Zelman Flower cooler is placed on top of the chip, and pushed down using a slight twisting force. This ensures a good seal and that the compound is spread thinly. Do not remove the cooler, because you will introduce air pockets.

The cooler is held in place by fixing screws into the corner pillars. A small spring is placed under each screw to apply an even pressure.

The cooler uses a large fan held in place by a bracket connected to the case. The fan is connected to the motherboard processor fan otput via a speed controller, so that the speed of the fan can be greatly reduced. This reduces the noise output considerably.
