Tom Morgans Hellfire Corner

Fricourt

18/10/02 11:49 This memorial was laid to Private Reginad Giles, who was only 14 years old.

18/10/02 12:13 Fricourt Cemetry for the Green Howards, who went over the top at 2p.m. on July 1st 1916, to instant death.

18/10/02 12:55 The German graves have a metal cross instead of a stone. The Germans were buried in mass graves and each cross represents either four or eight soldiers. The picture on the right has a jewish and a christian grave side by side.

18/10/02 13:42 Below, the grave of H Whittlestone, another Horbury soldier buried at Delville Wood.

18/10/02 14:03 Below, Delville Wood Museum and Memorial. The picture on the right shows the position of the Head Quarters in 1916. You can just make out where the trenches were dug.

18/10/02 14:08 This 3D bronze sculpture is inside the museum. It is a good representation of the horror of six days in 1916.
