Designing Web Pages

Here are some top tips for your web pages!

Audience:

Work out who your site is for, e.g. boys, girls, pre-school kids, teens etc, and design to appeal to those people.

Readability:

Make sure folks can read your text! Use a colour that contrasts well with your page background, and if you use a background image make sure it's not too distracting!

Spelling:

Make sure you spell correctly and remember to put all those capital letters and full stops in the right places. Use a spellchecker but also check by eye.

Consistency:

Try not to use more than 3 or 4 main colours in your pages and keep some of these colours the same on every page so that your site looks consistent.

Navigation:

Don't let visitors get lost in your site. Put home buttons on every page.

Download Times:

Keep 'em small: Pages should load in less than a minute. In fact the faster the better, so keep those pictures and animations compressed.

Not too Busy!:

Don't mae your site too busy - leave some blank space, it's good for the eyes. Animations are great but you can have too much of a good thing!

Update:

Keep people coming back to your site by making sure it always has something new and interesting for them to see.

Shout about it!:

Tell everyoe about your site, register it with search engines, tell your friends
